When I Think Back Of The Stories That I Have Heard About How The Nativ

When I think back of the stories that I have heard about how the Native American Indians were driven from their land and forced to live on the reservations one particular event comes to my mind. That event is the Battle of the Little Big Horn. It is one of the few times that the Oglala Sioux made history with them being the ones who left the battlefield as winners. When stories are told, or when the media dares to tamper with history, it is usually the American Indians who are looked upon as the bad guys. They are portrayed as savages who spent their time raiding wagon trains and scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American government was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where it belongs, on the U.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole from the Oglala forcing Crazy Horse, the great war chief, and many other leaders to surrender their nation in order to save the lives of their people. In the nineteenth century the most dominant nation in the western plains was the Sioux Nation. This nation was divided into seven tribes: Oglala's, Brule', Minneconjou, Hunkpapa, No Bow, Two Kettle, and the Blackfoot. Of these tribes they had different band. The Hunkpatila was one band of the Oglala's (Guttmacher 12). One of the greatest war chiefs of all times came from this band. His name was Crazy Horse. Crazy Horse was not given this name, on his birth date in the fall of 1841. He was born of his father, Crazy Horse an Oglala holy man, and his mother a sister of a Brule' warrior, Spotted Tail. As the boy grew older his hair was wavy so his people gave him the nickname of Curly (Guttmacher 23). He was to go by Curly until the summer of 1858, after a battle with the Arapaho's. Curly's brave charged against the Arapaho's led his father to give Curly the name Crazy Horse. This was the name of his father and of many fathers before him (Guttmacher 47). In the 1850's, the country where the Si oux Nation lived, was being invaded by the white settlers. This was upsetting for many of the tribes. They did not understand the ways of the whites. When the whites tore into the land with plows and hunted the sacred buffalo just for the hides this went against the morale and religious beliefs of the Sioux. The white government began to build forts. In 1851, Fort Laramie was built along the North Platte river in Sioux territory (Matthiessen 6). In 1851, the settlers began complaining of the Indians who would not allow them to go where they wanted. U.S. Agents drew up a treaty that required the Indians to give safe passage to the white settlers along the Oregon Trail. In return the government promised yearly supplies of guns, ammunition, flour, sugar, coffee, tobacco, blankets, and bacon. These supplies were to be provided for fifty-five years. Ten thousand Sioux gathered at the fort to listen to the words of the white government and to be showered with gifts. In addition the treat y wanted the Indians to allow all settlers to cross their lands. They were to divide the plains into separate territories and each tribe was not to cross the border of their territory. The treaty also wanted no wars to be waged on other tribes. They wanted each Indian nation to choose a leader that would speak for the entire nation. Many Indians did not like this treaty and only after weeks of bribery did the whites finally convince a sizable group of leaders to sign. The Oglala's were among those who refused (Matthiessen 6). This Treaty however did not stop the trouble between the Indians and the settlers. The Indians however, did not cause violent trouble, they would perhaps approach a covered wagon to trade or extract gifts of food. The most daring warrior might make away with a metal pot or pan but nothing violent like the books and movies lead us to believe (Matthiessen 7). The straw that broke the camels back

He was the British Prime Minister at the time of the Second World War and lead to Britain’s victory over Nazi Germany. His contributions in the form of written books and recorded speeches serve as an insight into history and as a source of inspiration till today. His perseverance and courage were worthy of praise. He strongly believed in spending his life in serving the country. He is still regarded as one of the most significant Englishmen of the twentieth century. SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL EARLY AND JOURNALIST YEARS 1874-1903 Sir Winston Churchill was born in Woodstock in 1874. His parents were too busy for him and he spent most of his time with his nanny who he became very attached to. He had a younger brother. As a child, Churchill was stubborn and annoying. He was educated at the Royal Military College at Sandhurst. It is said that at school Sir Winston Churchill was a poor student and a disappointment to his father.[1] Churchill was chubby and not particularly tall. At the age of 21, Sir Winston Churchill joined the British army which he left four years later.[2] During his stay in the army, Churchill took part in the Battle of Omdurman. Writing was his passion. He used to love writing about his experiences and other prevailing issues. According to Churchill, Writing is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase it that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monst er and fling him to the public. It was during this time that he wrote some of his most famous books. In 1896 and 1897, Sir Winston Churchill stayed in India where he worked as a soldier and a reporter. Sir Winston Churchill left the British army in 1899 after which he started writing war related news for the Morning Post. In 1900, Sir Winston Churchill went back to England and became a member of the House of Commons. Thought a Conservative during this time, Sir Winston Churchill switched sides and joined the Liberal party in 1903.   [3] Achievements of Sir Winston Churchill Sir Winston Churchill’s accomplishments began in his 20s when he was an active journalist. His successes continued while he was an active politician and when he became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He is known as one of the greatest leaders in history. Sir Winston Churchill had a strong foothold of the English language. His works as a writer won him the Nobel Prize in Literature. Sir Winston Churchill always supported European and Atlantic alliance. Eventually this alliance resulted in the NATO. Sir Winston Churchill also introduced reforms for prisons which included not only entertainment activities but also the provision of basic health care facilities for the prisoners. [4] Sir Winston Churchill remained the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for almost the entire Second World War from the year 1940 all the way up to 1945. Hence all the war time decisions were made by him. Sir Winston Churchill was very well versed with the military and warfare. It was him who formed military bodies that eventually went on to destroy the German forces. His most significant role was his leadership during the Second World War against Nazi Germany.[5] For all his dedication and efforts for Britain on an international arena, Sir Winston Churchill received much praise and honor. He was given U.S. citizenship and the title for one of the greatest Englishmen in history. [6] Special Characteristics of Sir Winston Churchill Sir Winston Churchill was an outstanding orator and author. He was also a well reputed journalist and painter. During his lifetime, he wrote many books and delivered numerous speeches that inspired people. He took keen interest in history and was one of the most significant leaders in the history of Europe. Churchill was far-sighted, focused, determined to succeed, independent, persistent, passionate and brave. He did not believe in the concept of surrender. He was emotionally and physically tough. His trait of being courageous has been proven on several accounts. He was always a keen and dedicated warrior. Sir Winston Churchill was a strong leader. He believed in whole heartedly fighting for his country. The population of the United Kingdom could relate to him and visualize his dreams. He encouraged them to turn their dreams into reality. [7] Lessons we learn from the life, achievements and disappointments of Churchill One thing we note from Churchill’s life is that when children do not feel loved and protected at home, the insecurity and depression they experience then becomes a personality trait and appears on the surface later on. It creates in them the need to make their presence felt. Even Sir Winston Churchill said that if he could not get himself to be loved, he could at least get himself to be admired. The most important thing that we can gauge from the life of Sir Winston Churchill is that perseverance, passion and refusal to surrender leads to success. After the victory in World War II when Churchill participated in the elections again, he was sure he would win because of his recent popularity. To his surprise and disappointment, he lost the General Elections. This fact proves that one can never afford to be laid back. It was after this shock that Churchill revamped his party and went out of his way to regain the lost support. Continuous efforts are required for success. The minute a person starts taking success for granted, before he knows it, it is taken away by someone else. SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL STATESMAN YEARS 1904-1933 Sir Winston Churchill was pro social welfare and joined the Liberal Party in 1904. He won the General Elections in 1906 and formed the Liberal government. Two years later, Sir Winston Churchill got married to Clementine Ogilvy Spencer. He had one son and two daughters with her. His family brought him a lot of happiness. However, one of his daughters died at the age of three. This was one of the reasons for his depression in the years to follow. [8] How did he advance in politics? Sir Winston Churchill’s father was an active politician. This is where Churchill got his political background from. He was an average student. He dropped out of school and joined the army at a young age. Sir Winston Churchill was initially posted in Cuba where he got involved in the on-going civil war. After this he moved to India where he signed up to participate in the rebellion at Malakand.   There was no opening for him on that front so he signed up as a journalist and still went to Malakand to take part in the revolt. While in India, Sir Winston Churchill served as a war correspondent. [9] After his duration in India, Sir Winston Churchill went to Sudan where he took part in the uprisings that occurred in 1898.[10] The first time Sir Winston Churchill fought in the General Elections, he was unsuccessful. Later on, Churchill was taken prisoner for carrying a weapon but he escaped from prison and rejoined the army.[11] In 1906, Sir Winston Churchill participated in the General Elections and won. Thus he formed the Liberal government. After the elections of 1910, Sir Winston Churchill was made Home Secretary. One important contribution he made was the reforms he introduced for the prisons. He generated activities that included the basic essentials as well as entertainment for prisoners. The entertainment included educational sessions and concerts and the essential services included provision of medical and health care facilities. [12] One year later, in 1911, Sir Winston Churchill became Lord of Admiralty. It was during this time that he transformed the navy with advanced equipment. Sir Winston Churchill took special interest in the armed forces. A year later he formed the Royal Naval Air Service. The latter was made modern with the help of new equipment and aircraft. Sir Winston Churchill was so passionate about the navy that he even learnt how to fly an aircraft. It was in 1915 that Sir Winston Churchill rejoined the British Army. During this time Churchill looked after the manufacture of aircrafts, artillery, weapons and tanks. During 1919 and 1920, Sir Winston Churchill also worked under the leadership of Lloyd George as Minister of War and Air and later as Colonel Secretary. Some of Churchill’s actions in war were severely criticized. For instance, he suggested using chemical weapons just to test them on the Arabs. Later on, Sir Winston Churchill became Chancellor of the Exchequer. After 1925, Churchill took on the job of editing the very famous state magazine called the British Gazette. In 1929, the government was defeated and Churchill lost his rank. However, in 1933 when the Nazis emerged and Adolf Hitler gathered immense support in Germany, Sir Winston Churchill led the rearmament movement in the United Kingdom. nbsp; What did he write? Sir Winston Churchill’s career as an author started in 1985 when he began writing for the newspaper. He enjoyed writing about his adventures and experiences. The following year, he wrote his first book titled The Story of the Malakand Field Force. In 1898, Sir Winston Churchill wrote another book called The River War. The next year brought with it two more books by Churchill: London to Ladysmith via Pretoria and Ian Hamilton’s March. In 1900, Churchill’s original called Savrola was published. In 1903 Sir Winston Churchill wrote Mr. Brodrick’s Army and in 1906 he wrote Lord Randolph Churchill and For Free Trade. The former was about his late father. Two years later, Sir Winston Churchill narrated his adventures in Africa via the book title An African Journey. His other books regarding politics include Liberalism and the Social Problem, The People’s Rights and The World Crisis. The World Crisis was published between 1923 and 1931 in six volumes.[13] His other important books include India (1931), Thoughts and Adventures (1932), The War Speeches (1941-1946), The Second World War (1948-1953), A History of English-Speaking People (1956-1958) and If I Lived my Life Again (1974). [14] How did he get depressed? There were many reasons that led to Sir Winston Churchill’s depression. To begin with, his parents neglected him and he always felt the absence of a loving family. Although his marriage did bring him a lot of happiness, the early childhood depression remained. Moreover, one of his daughters passed away at the age of three.[15] In 1914, Churchill came up with the brilliant plan of campaigning in the Dardanelles but unfortunately the plan failed. Churchill was blamed of poor leadership and his allies turned hostile against him. A year later, a British ship sank due to an attack by a German submarine, taking the lives of just under 2000 people on board. Churchill was suspected of being involved in making the ship sink. It was due to all these accusations that Churchill was downgraded from the Admiralty. Following this, Sir Winston Churchill experienced bouts of depression.[16] These fits of depression were aggravated by Churchill’s exit from office in 1930 and his failure in the elections in 1945. He gave his depression the name of â€Å"Black Dog†. Churchill’s depression used to be intense and last for weeks at times. Judging from his mood swings, there have been rumors that Sir Winston Churchill suffered from Bi Polar Depression. nbsp; What did he do before World War II? Before the start of the Second World War, it was Sir Winston Churchill who sensed the danger coming and stressed that Britain become prepared to face the Nazi Germany and the emerging Hitler. By this time he had had adequate experience in the military and in participating in rebellions. This coupled with his political background prepared him for what was to come. [17] Why did he become great during World War II? International Role World War II started in 1939. At this time, the British Prime Minister Chamberlain appointed Churchill as the first Lord of the Admiralty. In 1940 he went on to become the Chair person of the Military Committee. The Chamberlain government failed in the same year and Sir Winston Churchill became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. As prime minister, Sir Winston Churchill founded a federation government which included people from the Labor Party. He placed these people in top ranks in the government. It was during this time that Sir Winston Churchill communicated frequently with Franklin D. Roosevelt and developed strong ties with him. This was a relationship that was in favor of Great Britain for the rest of the war. Britain was able to engage in an exchange of weapons and other war equipment as a result of this friendship.[18] The government of the United Kingdom further benefited from an agreement with the United States of America called the Lend Lease agreement by which it could acquire weapons from the United States on credit. The benefits of this relationship extended till the end of the war when the two allies jointly asked Germany to surrender in 1943.[19] Under the leadership of Sir Winston Churchill, Britain remained strong and the Germans failed to invade it. Eventually they gave up trying. Sir Winston Churchill was accused of poor leadership and wrong decisions. Eventually his party and the Parliament lost faith in him. On the brighter side, Sir Winston Churchill was a very impactful writer and orator. His speeches that were transmitted using the radio used to move people and inspire them to fight for their country. Even during the war, he kept communicating with his people via speeches that kept their Morales high and their determination going. Due to his dedication and enthusiasm during the war, Sir Winston Churchill surfaced as a hero. After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Sir Winston Churchill collaborated with Franklin D. Roosevelt in order to win against Germany and Japan. Sir Winston Churchill was also friendly with the leaders of the Soviet Union. Sir Winston Churchill – Domestic Role Despite his success in the international arena, Sir Winston Churchill was less successful back at home. Many people, such as the working class, despised him for his guts.   At times, Sir Winston Churchill was blamed for regularly changing parties. Britain did win the war, but many people were of the view that Sir Winston Churchill did nothing to improve the United Kingdom as a country. THE FINAL YEARS 1946-1965 What happened after World War II? In 1946 Sir Winston Churchill went to the United States. He was also made the leader of the opposition party. While in the United States, he gave his Iron Curtain Speech which is talked of till today. In fact, former President George W. Bush used an adaptation of Churchill’s speech when he addressed the nation following the attacks on the twin towers in 2001. In 1951, the General Elections were held again and Sir Winston Churchill won yet another time. All the while he kept writing books that became really famous pieces of work. It was after this that he won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Why was he voted out of office? Churchill took part in the elections following the Second World War but to his disappointment, he was defeated. This defeat surprised him because he had just emerged victorious from the war and was confident about his support. The apparent reason for his failure in the elections was that people wanted a change in the reforms. Moreover some people were still suspicious of Churchill’s intentions and actions. What did he do in his last years? After the defeat in elections, Sir Winston Churchill worked to regain the lost support. He made efforts to revamp his party and carried out campaigns involving influential speeches. Through his speeches he cautioned his people about the growing socialist threat. At the age of 75, Sir Winston Churchill started writing his famous book titled The Second World War. In 1949, at the old age of 77, Sir Winston Churchill became Prime Minister again. Two years later in 1953, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and came to be known as Sir Winston Churchill. It was during the same time that he received his Nobel Prize for his significant contribution to Literature. In 1954, Sir Winston Churchill retired with dignity from the House of Commons. A year later he resigned from his beloved post of Prime Minister. Around that time he completed writing his famous book A History of the English-Speaking Peoples. He spent his last years painting and reflecting on thoughts. He became subdued and even stopped reading.    After suffering from Pneumonia three times and numerous strokes, Sir Winston Churchill died at the age of 90 in 1965 of poor health.[20] CONCLUSION Sir Winston Churchill lived from 1874 to 1965. He was an excellent orator and writer. During his life time he wrote numerous books and delivered several speeches, many of which are still a source of inspiration for leaders today. It was all because of Sir Winston Churchill that Britain was able to defeat Germany. Besides the experience in warfare and the military, Sir Winston Churchill also built strong ties with Franklin D. Roosevelt. This alliance helped Britain during the war in terms of equipment supplies and so on. Moreover, it was with Roosevelt that Churchill asked Hitler to unconditionally surrender the war in 1945. nbsp;

Analysis of leadership and managerial effectiveness Leadership power, influence, path-builder and director. it can defined in many ways, but most commonly Leader is person who influences the thoughts and behaviors of others; a leaders is one who establishes the direction for others to willingly follow. One person can serve as a leader or several persons might share leadership. A person may be appointed as leader or may be elected by people within his circle. Leaders play vital role in standardizing performance. Leaders can influence other to perform beyond the expectations. Managers plan, organize, lead and control so that â€Å"leading† and â€Å"managing† are inseparable, they are both integral part of each other. If one cant influence and inspire others to work willingly towards aims then all planning and organizing will be ineffective. Similarly setting direction is usually not enough, no matter how inspiring one can be, management skills are crucial. Main characteristics of leadership:- Self Confidence- They have c omplete confidence in their judgment and ability. A vision- This is an idealized goal that proposes a future better than the status quo. The greater the disparity between idealized goal and the status quo, the more likely that followers will attribute extraordinary vision to the leader. 3.Ability to articulate the vision- They are able to clarify and state the vision in terms that are understandable to others. This articulation demonstrates an understanding of the followers’ needs and, hence acts as a motivating force. 4.Strong convictions about vision- Charismatic leaders are perceived as being strongly committed, and willing to take on high personal risk, incur high costs, and engage in self-sacrifice to achieve their vision. 5. Behavior that is out of the ordinary- Those with charisma engage in behavior that is perceived as being novel, unconventional, and counter to norms. When successful , these behaviors evoke surprise and admiration in followers. 6.Perceived as being a change agent- Charismatic leaders are perceived as agents of radical change rather than as caretakers of the status quo. 7. Environmental sensitivity- These leaders are able to make realistic assessments of the environmental constraints and resources needed to bring about change. Main objective of leadership:- 1- Begin with the End in Mind Clearly define AND communicate the objective; then lead unapologetically to its conclusion 2- There is no â€Å"I† in TEAM Team players have value and are contributors to a group effort; self promoters do not have value and steal from the group. Cultivate team players and cull self promoters 3- Develop an Institutional Memory Remember mistakes – and the costs associated with fixing them – or they will repeat themselves ad nauseum 4- Set a good example by being a good citizen at home, in your community and at work No business success will make up for being a lousy citizen 5- Control the environment effectively, without suppres sing creativity & flow Don’t let the environment control you. 6- Do reward behavior you want repeated Behavior (and success) that is rewarded will increase in duration, intensity and frequency. 7- Don’t reinforce and don’t ignore behavior you want stopped Fear of conflict and avoidance of accountability will only lead to wide spreaddys function and more unwanted behavior.

The Customer Experience team evaluates the importance of understanding the client, empathising and providing solutions for their queries in a convenient time frame. The clients’ degree of satisfaction dictates the choice of decisions. The democratic approach shows and indicates that once the team members feel important because they are involved they do willingly provide a better service and once they come across some problem or some difficulty they are more prone to discuss it with their supervisor and in so doing they achieve client satisfaction in a quicker manner (Kurt Lewin, 1939). However when there is the autocratic approach which means the Leader has technically his own way, the other team members feel uneasy to approach him and because of this attitude the clients may suffer with the result that they will not be satisfied and they may therefore choose another company to the detriment of the said company(Kurt Lewin, 1939). When the Laissez-faire approach is used the client may be served in an extended time and not necessarily up to his expectations (Kurt Lewin, 1939). The bottom line in any company is the clients; the clients who come and go out of their own free will; however they can be encouraged or discouraged by comments or negative criticism of their friends and passers-by. One client can be the best advertisement for the whole company; however another client may destroy the company’s name, so it is imperative that each and every single client who comes to the outlet is given full prompt attention and excellent service. There is no point in serving well a large number of clients and deal carelessly with one or two. This attitude of finesse can be supervised by the managers who can judiciously direct the employees to persist in clientele diligence, having the full number of clients being served to the  best standard will ensure satisfaction, prosperity and Job happiness. The sales team knows that the company values should always be transparent namely Honesty, service, accountability and reliability. It stands to reason that the Autocratic Leader would involve himself or herself in checking each and every single move of any team member, however this could be suffocating even if they have no experience so there would be a time when the Democratic approach should be used carefully and there could come a time also when the Laissez-fair attitude could come into force, this can happen when the agents themselves grow accustomed to the service, know their clientele and are prompt to provide for the needs of those who come to be assisted (Kurt Lewin, 1939). When the Leader is astute enough to know the attitudes and the abilities of his team members he can know at what time the particular approach should be used. In this manner the optimum result will be achieved and the agents will be happy, therefore there will be more service; more input of the team, more clientele satisfaction and the company values would come into force regularly. It is obvious that clients suffer from different and swinging moods. It stands to reason that they will misread the attitude of the employees so it would be imperative that a cordial welcome is given, a listening ear is provided and explaining speech can make the client fully satisfied. This professional approach will definitely boost the sales and any sales offer being promoted at that particular time stands a better chance of being accepted because of the professional approach, thus sales will increase thanks to the proper attitude by employees. The expert manager knows his own feelings, his attitudes and his own negative emotions so when he is at work he knows how to harness them so that they do not get in the way but rather help him to promote the wellbeing of the team. When he talks to his team members and he provides a motivation for their work they are free to go forward enthusiastically to carry out what he puts forward as the need to succeed; that way they do succeed. They are satisfied and the other team members are willing to share the same team spirit so at the end of the day, when the work is finished the manager will know that thanks to his caring about his emotional intelligence which means keeping his anger in harness or his unhappiness at bay, could help him and others to  promote the company values of service for all clientele. When the members know that they have a bad day they feel that they will be understood and will receive sympathy, in not feeling threatened they can go about their work without committing errors because they are not under undue pressure because of their present mood. When they are in better spirits they will work harder to compensate for when they couldn’t. The manager appreciates the talents of the employees and tells them so specifically; â€Å"I know that you can succeed; I have full trust in all of you. However in case you need clarification or information or direction I am at your full disposal whenever you feel you want to contact me, all of you have been duly trained and I have been through your personal files and know that you can make it, so we can start as from today†. Frank two-way discussions between the manager and the employees will do away with any pent-up feelings and employees will relish the opportunity to provide their verbal contributions. This informal opportunity to disseminate and accumulate information will be the right forum to avail oneself of the entire information possible, do away with misinformation and disintegrate prejudices. Every week an analysis is carried out by the manager to check whether the objectives have been reached or whether new adjustments have to be made or maybe change the benchmark in so doing the manager has the ability to know where he stands for future reference and adapts the approaches for his personnel accordingly. When members in a company know their objectives and they are happy in their environment they can achieve much and so much more that the end result would be comfortable for everybody. However if they feel demotivated because they  feel not accepted in their environment and they feel that there is unfair competition between themselves, then they fall back on their objectives. One way in order to eliminate dissatisfaction is to meet them personally, let them vent their own ill feelings or unhappiness and then direct them tactfully in order to realise their unique importance in the company and their contribution, in doing so they will feel emotionally satisfied and they will start, continue and finish their work with great enthusiasm thus the end result will be satisfactory for all. If however they will feel the management has no time for them as employees or they have to follow blindly the directives that the management issues from time to time eventually they will get tired, this will be reflected in poor service towards the clients and then the customer care will reflect this haphazard attitude. If every employee feels that he or she is being treated fairly and given the fair share time of work and rest, then they will be duly motivated and there will be no dissatisfaction in their work. Another way to assist them in knowing that they are important is letting them know how others and themselves have done during the month and try to explain to them that if there objective is not yet done in that particular instance it is because of some cause beyond their control in so realising and in so hearing they will feel emotionally stable, they won’t feel guilty and upset, they will give their full drive towards completing and achieving company directives. An intelligent leader knows that if all work is completed by himself it will either be carried out superficially or at the most carelessly because there is so much time that can be spent diligently on one job or several jobs. However if he realises that his personnel around him have certain abilities and that they can carry out his job instead he can explain to them in due time, give them reasons why they are being chosen because they are the best within the company, show them the ways and means, give them a time frame and then let them achieve results. Once you delegate and explain, you may be satisfied, however there is always the chance that the result may not be up to your personal standard because it could be that the person chosen may be very proficient but not meticulous as you are, so in that department you may feel let down. However there must be a choice should the work be carried out by myself with the possibility that the work is not carried out up to  standard or should it be delegated to team members who most probably are the best, but they may not achieve the hundred percent but the result may be satisfactory enough for the company and clientele. The manager explains in detail the talents and abilities of his employees thus showing them publicly that he is aware of their strong points. He is so comfortable in their capabilities that he will delegate to them tasks which he usually carries out himself. When regular seminars take place and employees are asked to give their ideas on how to run the company and improve its progress they will surely bring out powerful ideas which will transform the employees into thinkers and provide ample space so that the members will feel that they can propel the public venture from their own angle, particular point of view. So they will feel strong enough to perform with energy and zest. As a group, they will feel empowered because their knowledge will grow because they will feel that they are up to par with their leaders and feel proud to belong to this particular group. This approach will create a very warm work atmosphere which will definitely push or motivate the employees to give their best at all times even when the going is hard. They feel that the manager is so close to them that they can share and promote the mission statement. Setbacks are ideal opportunities for leaders and managers to review their decisions and approach in learning not to repeat such mistakes. Such flexibility helps the whole team to realise that is not important to worry about past failures but to re-direct their energy through new ventures in listening to fresh ideas, coming from different angles. The fact that the Manager keeps himself posted with different learnings and ideas can inject new power in his company. The ability to absorb new ideas and effect them can make the company an effective business venture and once the leader is open to the criticism and appreciation from his employees he has a consolidated commitment towards progress from all his team. In sharing full technical knowledge and trust, he is ensuring that the company will never be lax or indifferent. Thriving members of the company will push forward and accept ideas that will make the company client friendly. Employees who feel they fully belong to their place of wor k do not fall victim to sick leave abuse or absenteeism. Members who are supported by each other will feel motivated and happy in their working environment, satisfied workers will be  able to gain more profit for themselves and for the company, this happy atmosphere will keep the members healthy and so there will be less unhealthy tension, no bickering and full cooperation among themselves. A happy worker attracts clients, who in turn will bring along more clients so definitely more job satisfaction. The distinction of those workers who can carry out on top level is appreciated and increases motivation while the members who do their utmost but produce on a different level are acknowledged and they don’t feel left out but rather know that their dignity is respected. Tension is a very unhealthy attitude when the manager compares himself harshly to what he unrealistically expected from himself or others to do, he will feel upset and worried and invariably he will pass this tension onto his employees. If he realises that he can only do so much and that if his efforts are carried out in due manner then he has nothing to worry about no illnesses due to tension, rough approach due to attitude and no fear amongst his employees. If the manager treats himself fairly and expects from himself a performance which he can carry out then there is a stable character which influences the rest of the employees, knowing there is always flux in a company and that at times it may go forward at a very fast pace and at times it may go forward and at times it may regress. This is part of life which is accepted by mature managers, and the next day is considered a new day with the past feeling to be forgotten. Such an attitude provides a happy atmosphere were workers can leave their place of work to go home happy and will return to their work in good spirits. I Am a Conscientious Objector :: Example Personal Narratives

I Am a Conscientious Objector "I no longer wish to be a part of the military. I have come to the conclusion that war is not the answer to any of the world's problems. War is the failure of diplomacy and mindfulness." Those are the words that led to my current problems. Sometimes, in a momentary state of weakness I curse myself for uttering those words. I had joined the National Guard wanting to make the costs of college a little easier on myself, and that had grown into the belief that I was doing my patriotic duty--I was fighting for freedom and democracy, not only in my own country, but around the world. Now I have come to the conclusion that I erred in judgment. I believe that I allowed myself to be indoctrinated into a patriotic fantasyland where reality and illusion were intertwined to create a mythological belief in my country and my service. How did this drama begin? Some would say it began while I was growing up, surrounded by violent images in movies, video games, and the nightly news, and a certain stereotyping of what boys and men should be. This is not an illogical argument, but I don't think the violent images are the only factor. I was having problems at home and was looking for an escape. I thought that joining the service would give me an "out" to my--current problems--so I signed up for the National Guard (not wanting to make the full-time commitment to the regular Army). This, I'm afraid, constitutes the reasons many of my brothers and sisters have joined the ranks. My family dropped me of at the hotel on the eve of my departure to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They were proud, happy, and sad at the same time. Military training is not really like they make it out to be on the TV commercials. It's extremely boring most of the time. The main catch phrase we often used between each other was, "Hurry up and wait," because that is what we seemed to be doing. Basically, for 90% of what we did we had to wait for ten or twenty other people to do it before and after us.

History of Computers

Well, the English dictionary states that it is â€Å"Also called [a] processor. An electronic device designed to accept data, perform prescribed mathematical and logical operations at high speed, and display the results of these operations† (dictionary, 201 1). But, computers are much more than that. Computers are not Just pieces of equipment, they are tools that make up our everyday lives and greatly help and facilitate them; they make our lives faster, easier, simpler, and more efficient.They have only been around for a small amount time. They are part of the modern era† as some refer to it, and are the fastest growing technology in man's history (History of Computers, 2011). There are many debates going on about which computer was the first one to be invented. This question is very difficult to answer if it is not more specific. The reason being that it all depends on what you are looking for in a computer. There are many types of computers, and they can be arranged in categories.Some examples of categories include, analog computers, hybrid computers, portable computers, desktop computers, war computers, mainframe computers, mini computers, corrupters, and the list goes on and on (Types of Computers, 2011). The list could also Include things Like satellites, GAPS systems, and house security alarms. All these things can be called computers because they have characteristics of computers, and are processors. For this reason, there is no definite answer to the question â€Å"Which was the first computer ever built? â€Å". The question has not been left unanswered, though.The first programmable computer ‘Turing COLOSSUS' appeared in the year 1943, and by many has been named the first computer to exist. It was used to â€Å"decipher World War II coded messages from Germany† (The History of the Computer, 2011). This was the main task that computers had at that time. They were used as â€Å"war computers† and were used to encode and decode messages from enemies. As stated above, it was the â€Å"first programmable computer. This means that in that category, the programmable computer category, It was the first, but It does not mean that It was the first â€Å"computer† ever to be Invented.Others attribute the title of â€Å"first electronic computer† and â€Å"first computer† to MANIAC. This was â€Å"the brain† of Turing Colossus (The History of the Computer, 2011). MANIAC was developed by John W. Macaulay and J. Prosper Cocker at the university of Pennsylvania, and by many is considered the first computer. MANIAC set many records, including the cost, space, and material used to build it. It used an extraordinary number of 18,000 vacuum tubes and 1800 square Ft. Of space, to build. First Computers, 2011 MANIAC was a major step in the development of the computer, but two inventions that really spurred on the building of computers were the Silicon Chip and Transistor. Both made it possible for computers such as MANIAC, to be reduced to a much smaller size, which cost less and was also more efficient and safer. After the Silicon Chip came to be, the change from big computers to portable everyday-use computers, was under way. The portable computers started coming out in the early asses (Mainframes to PC's, 2011). The first major company to design computers was IBM but then companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Dandy Radio Shack started producing their own portable computers, which IBM had not yet done.IBM at this time was still not involved in the â€Å"portable computer business† (The History of the Computer, 2011). IBM was still producing government and business owned computers. The two first people to create computer code were Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Their program was called a BASIC program and later Bill Gates created Microsoft which old computer software (Personal Computer History, 2011). IBM was the first, though, to create a PC computer which could add pieces to its architecture (Mainframes to PC's, 2011).Apple's Macintosh was the first computer to come out with a GUI (graphical user interface). This meant that it could be programmed by people at home, was easy to use with its interface, and it included a mouse, which meant it was a personal favorite at home for the people, while IBM was well liked by businesses and big corporations because of its programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus 1-2-3, ND its spreadsheets (Mainframes to PC's, 2011). In 1977, Dandy Radio Shack and Apple had the only machines equipped with disk drives.This meant that their software could be sold on â€Å"floppy disks† and this made it easier for them, and helped their companies become very successful (Knight Dan, 2001). The portable computer industry continued to evolve and change, but it took a couple decades before th ey started producing the kinds of computers we have now. Next, came the evolution of the new portable computers. Just like the big computers MANIAC and UNIVAC, the portable computers had a â€Å"revolution† of their win, where they improved as better programs and better devices were created. This â€Å"revolution† is fairly recent, less than a decade ago, up until now.One of the major milestones in technological and computer advancements was the touchstones. Computers called tablet PC's started being produced, and touchstones smart-phones, too. Tablet PC's are capable of being written on with a special pen. Now, computer companies are trying to build the smallest, fastest, most portable computers, and these computers are being called â€Å"Notebooks†. Also, some of the newer computers re equipped with built-in internet, meaning that anywhere the user is, the computer receives an internet signal and it can connect to the World Wide Web (WWW).Apple â€Å"app stor e† of its own, meaning users can download applications ranging from school to games and these pap's prices range from free to around $50. Some have even called this a cultural revolution in computer development (Elliptic Antonio, 2011). There are also other computers that can have third-party software downloaded onto them. This means that any person that can create computer software can then share it with a community of people. This is all made possible by the World Wide Web. Computers have drastically changed the way we work, both the efficiency and productivity has sky rocketed.Computers are now used for science, calculations, medicine, and also things like D building. Our whole stock exchange market is made up of computers who calculate and then communicate the news to the public. Computers are also frequently used to create plans for buildings, homes, and businesses. They can also help save lives in the medicine and search fields. They can help prevent illnesses and can al so help find outbreaks from others and even cover new ones (The Pros and Cons of Technology Today, 2011). Next comes the World Wide Web (WWW), and it makes computers even more useful.The World Wide Web connects the entire world together with an internet network, and many new purposes for computers have arisen thanks to it. First of all, computers are very important for communication. We can now communicate with people on the other side of the world, in only a matter of seconds. This is done through social networks, emails, and instant messaging programs. All our technology has greatly increased our productivity as we can share our findings with others in a horn amount of time. Also, smart-phones have evolved so much that now they are being called â€Å"portable computers† themselves.We can almost do everything on our phones that we can do on our computers, now. This is the reason why many believe that in a few years, computers will have disappeared and smart-phones and tablet s will replace them. Some even say that in 2011, smart-phones and tablets will take over (Lour Steve, 2011). With all the positives stated above, there are also some â€Å"side-effects† created from computer usage. One example being that some people rely so much on technology hat when it fails them, they are unproductive. Also, computers now decrease the amount of exercise people get.Now, people tend to spend most of their day at work, on the computer ,and then at home in front of their TV's. This has greatly affected, for example, the obesity death rate in the United States. Around 600,000 adults each year die from physical inactivity and this number has been increasing each year (Obesity Levels in America, 2008). This is due to laziness among the people, created by use of technology, and has been an increasing factor in health issues. Many people are not getting enough exercise because they are on their computers too much, and this is one of the major negatives that compute rs have brought about.Also, it has been proven by many eye doctors that being in front of a computer screen for too long can damage the eye sight. Other health issues have arisen too concerning rays that could be emitted from computers and could be dangerous to our bodies (Hartmann Thomas, 2011). There have been many assumptions made about what will happen to the they will continue to evolve into ways that are at the moment unimaginable, and they ill make our lives more CEO-friendly. That is a major development right now in computers. Scientists are finding new ways to make houses CEO-friendly and more efficient in the way they work.This is all related to computers, since the houses are equipped with computer processors of their own. Some houses of the future will include automatic heating systems and automatic blinds. For example, they will receive data from a nearby weather station and then they will apply this to the house so that they can make the house cooler on a hot day and w armer on a cold day. They ill also have houses with refrigerators, for example, that display when they are about to run out of food and what they are running out of.There are lists that go on and on about the development of the future for computers and how they will change the way we think and live. Computers are huge parts of our daily lives and many experts believe that it will stay that way for a long time to come. They believe that the technology will improve and speed up our work and make it more efficient. There are others, though, that believe that computers are making our generations lazier and not as scholarly. This is major debate that is on going about computers and their pros and cons.

This may be a bit of a biased view since I am a fan of nearly every movie Woody has made, but watching this movie with special attention to mise en scene made me feel reaffirmed on what a great filmmaker I think he is. I had read in the book, Woody Allen on Woody Allen that there is a clause in the studio's contract that says that this film must always be shown in letterbox format in any home video or broadcast. Having read this, it was obvious that he did not want anything cut from the picture and he was going to be using the full frame. IMDB.com states that this is his first and, to date, only film shot using the 2.35:1 anamorphic Panavision process. This movie is shot entirely in black and white. This combined with Gershwins score gives New York a fairytale-like quality in the film. Manhattan itself becomes a character in the movie. The title of the movie is taken off of a street sign that blinks Manhattan as we are first brought into the movie with Isaacs monologue over shots with no actors, just location shots further establishing New York City as a character. Several outdoor scenes are shot from long distance causing the actors to be seen really small on the screen and allowing the city itself to fill the frame. In many of these scenes, the characters themselves arent even centered in the frame, leaving the city to be the dominant thing our eyes are attracted to. In the scene where Isaac (Woody Allen) and Mary (Diane Keaton) are sitting on the park bench after walking and talking throughout the city, we see the two of them staged on the bench on the far right corner of the screen, in front of the 58th St. Bridge.
